Neck & Arm Pain

By Dr. Richard L. Cole, DC, DACNB, DAAPM, FICC

DIAGNOSIS:

Many Americans suffer each year with neck and arm pain.  There are multiple reasons for this and it is vital that you find a source of that pain and get the help you need.  ConservCare doctors are highly trained in detecting the root causes of your discomfort.  There are different symptoms, which you may be experiencing.  You may have stiffness and soreness or you may have pain shooting in your neck or arms.  Many times the discomfort is described as a deep ache, but you may not know exactly where the ache is located.  Tingling and lack of pain free movements can be prevalent.  No matter what your symptoms, your doctor is working to find your source of your pain.  The causes of neck and arm pain are multiple and can be complex.  Your pain may be as a result of swelling, infection of the joint, sprain of the soft tissue, or degenerative joint changes due to arthritis.  Your pain may be coming from a nerve root irritation, Cervical disc syndrome, or a local infection.  Other conditions that are diagnosed from this type of pain are radiculopathy, gall bladder irritation, heart condition, and possible hernia.  Your doctor performed a consultation, examination, and necessary x-rays today and determined if your problem can be treated in our office.

TREATMENT:

Your doctor may use spinal manipulative therapy more commonly called adjustments.  Other physical therapy protocols may be prescribed to assist in your healing process. Your doctor will be very specific regarding the treatment regimen that he needs you to carry out.  It is vital to your healthcare that you follow through with these instructions.  If you are unable to do so, please notify your doctor immediately so he can monitor your progress effectively.  While at home, it is imperative that you adhere to some guidelines.  Do not sleep on your stomach or put your neck in a strained position.  Use ice and heat applications as directed by your doctor and carry out all home exercises you may have been instructed to perform.  Your doctor has been specially trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat neck and arm pain.  You can rest assured that if your condition does not appear to be chiropractic in nature, your doctor will refer you to another healthcare provider so you can receive the proper treatment for your condition.

Always feel free to ask your doctor or therapist any questions you have while they are treating you.  We want you to be informed and understand what it will require to restore your health.
